4 HONEYMOON DISASTERS YOU CAN EASILY AVOID
June 05, 2019
A honeymoon is meant to be a joyous occasion. After all, you’ve just gotten hitched to the man or woman of your dreams and now you get to ride off into the proverbial sunset together. What could be lovelier? However, there are a few things that have the potential to throw a spanner in the works if you don’t plan ahead. Here are four common honeymoon disasters that can be avoided with some prior planning.
COMING BACK BROKE
Enjoying an all-out holiday with your sweetheart is all good and well, but don’t push the boat out too far. It might be tempting to celebrate your nuptials in style without any fear of financial consequences, but there is nothing worse than coming back broke. Don’t overextend yourself when it comes to the price of your honeymoon getaway. Take a good look at your finances, see what you can comfortably afford and stick to your budget.
The last thing you want to be on your honeymoon is sick. No matter how lovely your destination or perfect your accommodation, it’s hard to enjoy yourself if you’re down with the flu. To avoid getting sick, ask your doctor or pharmacist for a booster shot a week or two before you’re due to depart on your holiday. Also take care to eat healthily, get enough sleep and hydrate sufficiently.
Bonus tip: If you’re going somewhere tropical or sunny for your honeymoon, remember the sunscreen and stay out of the sun between 11:00 – 15:00. Sunstroke will ruin your holiday quick sticks, and a bad sunburn is a passion killer of note.
Losing your ID or passport when you're travelling abroad is no joke. It can derail a holiday like nobody’s business. The professionals recommend that you make three certified copies of your identification documents and stash them in various locations (e.g. your daypack, main luggage and hotel safe), as well taking a picture of your ID and storing it on your smartphone for easy reference in a pinch.
NOT HAVING ACCESS TO YOUR CASH
Broken ATMs can cause headaches in foreign countries. Play like a pro and carry at least a $100 worth of the local currency as well as traveller’s cheques to avoid lengthy telephone conversations with your bank while you should be soaking up the local culture and working on your tan.
So, there you have it. Four honeymoon disasters that you can easily avoid with a little planning. Keep an eye on the blog in coming weeks and months as we share more helpful advice on dating, weddings, honeymoons and more!
