HOW TO WOO A GARDENING ENTHUSIAST
June 16, 2019
Are you taking a gardening enthusiast on a date sometime soon? We’ve got some excellent tips lined up to woo the socks of that green-fingered god or goddess. Gardeners are a very particular breed of human, but once you get that their love of plants is central to their whole way of thinking about the world, you’ll be well on your way to leaving a lasting impression.
Here are our top tips to woo a gardening enthusiast:
DITCH THE BOUQUET IN FAVOUR OF A LIVE PLANT
If you’re going on a date and were thinking about bringing flowers, rather go for a live plant. Visit your nearest nursery and ask the attendants to recommend a perennial houseplant that doesn’t require too much detailed care. I.e. go for a Delicious Monster or Jade Plant rather than a finicky African Violet or orchid. This way your date will be able to enjoy your token of affection for a long time without having to worry too much about intricate care. Bonus points if you can learn how to pronounce the Latin name of the plant you’re giving them!
CHOOSE A NATURAL SETTING
It goes without saying that gardening enthusiasts like the outdoors. As such, it makes sense to treat them to a date in a natural setting. You could go for coffee in a botanical garden, enjoy a picnic in a nature reserve, or even go for a walkabout at a nearby nursery. Most nurseries have tea gardens, so you’ll be able to enjoy a cold drink and a light meal if you want.
COOK A VEGGIE DINNER FROM SCRATCH
Not all gardening enthusiasts are vegetarians, obviously, but they do all enjoy well-grown produce. Invite the object of your affections for a home-made dinner at your house, but first take them to the farmer’s market to help you choose the fresh ingredients. This type of interactive dining experience is a great way to get to know each other as you make your way from one destination to the next.
