HOW OFTEN DO YOU TEND TO YOUR RELATIONSHIP GARDEN?
December 28, 2018
Do you have house plants? Or a flower garden at home? If you do, you’ll know that those plants don’t just do their own thing – they need some TLC. House plants have to be put outside and watered often to keep their lush appearance, and out in the garden there is pruning, pest control and fertilising to consider.
Now, you have to ask yourself why we are willing to through all that to keep our plants in top condition, but we often neglect to spend the same energy on our romantic relationships. How often do you tend to your relationship garden? Not too sure?
Here are a few ways that you can bolster the growth of your relationship every day:
SPEAK YOUR MIND IN A CONSTRUCTIVE WAY
We all know that communication is key in any relationship. The only way for your partner to know what is on your mind is to speak it. None of us are mind-readers after all. However, there are many ways to phrase the things that go on inside your head. If you need to broach a difficult subject with your partner, remember to do so in a positive and constructive way. Every word you say either builds up or breaks down the person you love.
WEED OUT ANY RESENTMENTS ASAP
Don’t let things fester. Remember the old adage ‘don’t go to bed fighting’? That’s a cliché because it’s true. Figure out what lies at the root of the issue you’re experiencing and work together to find a solution. One or both of you may have to compromise, but it will make your relationship that much stronger.
TOUCH & PLAY
Kissing and touching is not just meant to be foreplay. It’s an evolutionary requirement to keep you emotionally close to your chosen mate. No kidding! The closeness hormone oxytocin reduced stress and makes you feel all loved up when you’re kissing our cuddling with your partner and also rekindles that giddy feeling of first falling in love (yay, right?!).
