Here is a list of our four favourite picnic spots in SA to inspire you to al fresco greatness.

FYNDRAAI RESTAURANT AT SOLMS-DELTA IN THE CAPE WINELANDS
This beautiful spot just outside of the pretty town of Franschhoek offers tasty picnic baskets that visitors can enjoy at the estate's gorgeous picnic area. Book early to avoid disappointment, especially during summer- and school holidays.

EMMARENTIA DAM IN JOHANNESBURG
Nice and close to Jozi CBD, yet remote enough to truly feel like you're out in nature, Emmarentia Dam is known for its shady spaces, lovely walkways and beautiful rose garden. Keen to work up a sweat before you settle down to lunch? You can rent a canoe or go angling as well.

KARKLOOF NATURE RESERVE IN THE NATAL MIDLANDS
Karkloof Nature Reserve is situated near the beautiful town of Howick and has lovely picnic site in the forest, where visitors can make use of communal braai facilities overlooking a waterfall.

THE BOTANIC GARDENS IN DURBAN
The Durban Botanic Gardens are simply stunning. This beautiful picnic destination is one of the oldest surviving botanical garden in the whole of Africa and boasts 80+ heritage treas. It also plays host to the popular Old Mutual Music at the Lake events.

Tired of the same old sarmies and cold frikadelle? Here are a few tasty ideas to supercharge your picnic basket!
Toasted brioche rounds, topped with pickled quail egg, English ham and classic Hollandaise.
Crispy mini poppadoms topped with Cape Malay-inspired chicken, fresh raspberries and toasted shaved almonds.
Mini skewers of watermelon, feta, olive and basil.
Honey-roasted figs, filled with gorgonzola and dressed with a verjuice reduction.
Fresh asparagus and grapefruit salad, served with labneh yoghurt cheese.

TIPS FOR CHOOSING A WEDDING VENUE
Perhaps you’ve just got engaged and can’t wait to book your wedding venue – but do you really know what you’re looking for? Before you go dashing off to look around every single wedding reception venue within a hundred miles, here are some top tips to think about when choosing a wedding venue:

COMMUNICATION IS KEY
Have a chat with your other half about the sort of wedding you would like and be prepared to compromise if you have different ideas; this could help avoid disagreements later!  Are you looking for a summer wedding in a marquee, a relaxed or contemporary barn wedding venue or a formal and elegant country house?

CIVIL CEREMONY OR CHURCH WEDDING?
Deciding what type of ceremony you would like will highlight the area in which you should look for a wedding venue as your wedding reception venue should ideally be within a 20 – 25 minute radius of the church.

DECIDE ON A BUDGET
Working out a budget early on will help you to shortlist potential wedding venues. Wedding catering and alcohol normally take up quite a large chunk of your budget so remember to include it in your calculations.
