UNEXPECTED DATE IDEAS IN AND AROUND DULLSTROOM
December 04, 2017
Living in South Africa, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to interesting, off-the-beaten-track destinations. At the moment, Dullstroom is enjoying quite a bit of hype. Also known as Emnothweni, this small town in Mpumalanga attracts visitors from far and wide – especially from the nearby cities of Johannesburg and Nelspruit, whose residents head here over weekends to enjoy a reprieve from the bustle of the metropolis.
Here are a few of our favourite date ideas to enjoy in Dullstroom on your next road trip or Mpumalanga getaway:
Dullstroom is renowned for its incredible fly-fishing, so if you enjoy casting a line, this is the place to do it (or to try your hand at it for the first time!). If you are pressed for time, and would like to do a few outdoorsy things in one spot, make your way to Highland Gate Trout Estate
. Here, you can fish, play golf, go mountain-biking or try a spot of birding – and you can stay over.
TOP TIP: If you like your sport a little more adrenaline-inducing, keep an eye out for the Breathe Adventure Centre, where you can enjoy activities like zip lining, abseiling and rock climbing. They’re so off the grid that they don’t have a website, so you’ll have to go old school and call ahead.
EXPLORE OUR NATURAL HERITAGE
Dullstroom Bird of Prey & Rehabilitation Centre
safeguards injured and recuperating raptors and provides the public with the opportunity to learn more about these majestic birds. Visit the centre for flight demonstrations, handling days, or photographic days to see the birds of prey up close and learn how vital a role they play in our ecological infrastructure.
VISIT A BREWERY
Stop over at Anvil Ale Brewery
on the edge of Dullstroom to sample some locally-produced beer. The 1000-litre brewery produces a Blonde Ale, a Pale Ale and a Baltic Porter, all of which can be enjoyed alongside a daily food menu that features local fare.
These are just a few of the fun things to do in Dullstroom. There is plenty of other activities to enjoy, so we highly recommend that you make at least a weekend of it when you head that way. Keep an eye on the blog for more fun date ideas in other parts of our beautiful country.
