5 QUINTESSENTIALLY CAPETONIAN DATES
February 19, 2019
Living in South Africa, we’re so spoiled for choice when it comes to beautiful places to go and fun things to do that we often forget to be tourists in our own country. Here are 5 quintessentially Capetonian dates that will help you to explore the Mother City like our visitors do:
GRAB A GATSBY FOR DINNER
This iconic Capetonian dish may not be exceptionally friendly on the waistline, but sjoe-wow it’s good! Think soft white bread stuffed with vinegary slap chips and fillings like polony, steak, atchar and other local delicacies.
TAKE THE CABLE CAR UP TABLE MOUNTAIN
has been named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, so if you haven’t been up there to gaze in wonderment at the view (and surreptitiously feed the dassies), make a plan to do so. It also happens to be a wonderful place to pop the question!
HIKE UP LION'S HEAD
If you feel like getting a little sweaty, a hike up Lion’s Head
is another quintessential Capetonian date idea. Lace up those trainers, pack plenty of water and watch the sunset from the summit. Just remember to bring a headlamp for the way down.
TAKE THE TRAIN TO SIMON'S TOWN
Take a train ride
along the coast to Simon’s Town, where you can visit the maritime museum and enjoy some freshly prepared seafood with a gorgeous view of the ocean.
HAVE A PICNIC AT KIRSTENBOSCH GARDENS
The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
are so vast that it can take up to a full week to explore properly. Pack a picnic, take a gentle walk along one of the marked trails and enjoy a nice meal somewhere under a shady tree. The gardens also host an annual summer concerts series, so watch out for the line-up and get tickets for a band or performer your partner would enjoy.
These are just five of the fun dates you can enjoy in Cape Town and surrounds. You could also go for a stroll in The Company’s Garden
, take a selfie outside parliament
, go for a beer tasting at SAB
, watch the sunset from Signal Hill or go for a swim at Clifton 4th
! Keep an eye on the blog in coming weeks as we share more fun ideas in SA’s major cities.
