MARRIAGE IS LIKE A GARDEN
June 05, 2018
How to cultivate love and root out weeds in your marriage. Marriage is like a garden. It needs intentional care and cultivation. When weeds grow, they must be pulled up from the root immediately. If we don’t pull up weeds by the root they will continue to grow back, eventually overtaking and killing the garden. The nutrients of grace, when received and acted upon by faith, keep our gardens green and healthy.
There is nothing worse than a serious drought to dampen the spirits of an avid gardening couple. Although the extreme water restrictions were lifted in many areas in South Africa, we are caution to to safeguard our water resources, which is why we’ve come up with three gardening projects that will do just that!
THREE WAYS TO SAVE WATER & BEAUTIFY YOUR GARDEN
1. GO COMPLETELY INDIGENOUS
One of the best ways to ensure that your garden is as water-wise as possible is to ensure that all your plants are indigenous. Alien plants require a lot of water and nutrients, and actually starve your indigenous beauties. Take a weekend and go through your garden with a fine-tooth comb to see if you have any non-indigenous plants hiding away, and remove it as soon as possible.
2. DESIGN A DROUGHT-TOLERANT GARDEN
The notion of completely redesigning an existing garden might seem like a bit of a tall order, but the trick is to take it one step at a time. Do some research about indigenous drought-resistant plants
that fare well in your region, get out some coloured felt-tip pens and start a basic design of the water-wise garden you envision. This way you’ll have a template to work from when you’re ready to rethink your current layout.
3. MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR RAINWATER
In a time of drought, we all have to do our bit to make the most of any rain that might fall. The components of a DIY rainwater harvesting system aren’t hard to come by, and the most basic solutions are relatively simple to install. Do some research online or ask for advice at your local hardware store.
