HAPPINESS IS THE FIRST PICNIC OF THE YEAR
July 15, 2017
We here at DNI just love old school romance like late night phone calls, flowers in the middle of the week, love letters written on pretty paper, and a date night every week, but most of all we love picnics.
Picnics are fun and intimate without any pretence. Just you and you partner enjoying each other’s company. There are two things to consider when planning your picnic: the location and the food.
Before deciding your location be sure to check the weather and plan accordingly. If it is a hot day outside pack sunscreen and find a nice shady tree so set-up under. Warmer months also mean picnics at night.
1. THE PARK OR THE BEACH
The park is a classic picnic location. Always pick a park that is beautiful and safe. The beach is another awesome option, just be sure to protect your food from the sand. These locations are only suitable during the day.
2. YOUR OWN BACKYARD
You own backyard is a great and easy option. You can control the environment and set-up is stress-free. Your food options also double because of the fridge in walking distance. There is no time limit on a picnic in your own backyard, just add some fairy lights and it can go all night.
Rooftops are amazing options for night-time picnics. Just make sure the roof is safe and pack extra blankets.
The end of summer does not mean the end of picnics. Move the furniture in your living room and throw a few blankets and pillows on the floor. Turn down the lights and light some candles. Add some music and heat some soup. The perfect winter, indoor-picnic location.
The food you choose for your picnic should always be easy to eat, preferably with your hands, without making a mess. Be sure to add some of your partner’s favourite foods and remember the wine! Food-wise you can either create a fancy picnic basket or an informal snack basket.
For a more formal approach add champagne and a cheese plate. Create yummy sandwiches and be sure to add a rich chocolate pudding for dessert.
An informal picnic basket is your standard picnic basket filled with chips and finger foods. Make yummy sandwiches and a pudding you can eat with your hands.
PICNIC PERFECT TIPS
Comfort is very important. Be sure to pack plenty of pillows and a big enough blanket for the two of you and all the food. Be sure the spot is nice and dry and that there is plenty of shade. If your picnic takes place at night be sure to bring extra blankets to lie under and be sure the moon is full and the sky is clear.
You can do anything with the RIGHT cutlery. Pack plates (paper is fine) and napkins. Remember to pack glasses and a bottle opener. Pack enough knives and forks to make plating and eating easy and bring along special cutlery for non-finger foods. Lastly, remember to pack Tupperware along for all the leftovers.
Have fun. Plan a few informal activities, like 20 Questions, finding shapes in the clouds or have your laptop ready with a great movie.
Be prepared. Check the weather a few days before the picnic date and plan accordingly. Other things will go wrong but always remember a picnic is a beautiful mess and some of the most fun you will ever have on a date.
Set-up and Clean-up. The set-up and clean-up are (unfortunately) all on you. If you want to surprise your date, be sure to be done before he or she arrives.

I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”
