15 FAMILY DATE IDEAS
April 02, 2018
Having a standing Date Night with your partner is very important for your marriage. That one night a week or month gives the two of you time to reconnected and check in, on your marriage and your partner’s life. The same applies to Family Date Night.
Book time once a month (or week) with your children to find out how school is going, who their friends are and really find out their state of mind. Soon they will be grown, with their own problems, busy schedules, and children and seeing them will become nearly impossible.
We suggest these 15 ideas. The ideas have been split in three. The first five dates are for mom and her girls, the next five is for dad and his boys and the last five are group family dates. When you are on your “date” be sure to pay undivided attention; no cell phones or work-stress.These are the memories that will stay with your children forever.
FIVE MOTHER-DAUGHTER DATES
Go get your "girlie" one!
1. SPA DAY
Book a full Spa Day and spend the day with your girl getting pampered. Sip champagne and gossip by the relaxation pool. Or make your own face masks at home and chat while you paint each other’s nails. Even just getting your hair done together will strengthen your bond. Try Annique Beauty Salon & Day Spa
in Gauteng or Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve
in the Western Cape.
2. HIGH TEA AT NOON
Get dressed up in lace and pearls and take your daughter for tea and cake. This could be the start of a tradition that will be carried on with her daughters. If tea and crumpets aren’t your style turn it into wine and nachos (this is a personal favourite for me and my mom). A place like French Toast Coffee Café
in Hartbeespoort offers a unique experience.
3. MOVIE DAY WITH A THEME
Get comfy on the couch, in your pj’s, with plenty of junk food. Only choose movies with a strong theme of mother and daughter relationships, like Freaky Friday, Mothersday or Because I said so. You might learn something … but you will definitely share some laughs and tears.
4. LOUNGING POOLSIDE
Spend the day in the sun poolside. Make sure you have comfy towels, sunscreen, trashy celebrity magazines and a lot of cocktails (or mocktails).
No need to explain this one. This is a natural instinct all women have. If you are not in the mood to spend, window shop and have a nice lunch together. Just the two of you.
FIVE FATHER-SON DATES
Rough and though!
1. HUNTING/FISHING TRIP
Book a hunting or fishing weekend away for the two of you. Being surrounded by nature and fresh air will open each of you up. Besides, there is nothing that bonds men as quickly as shooting at things. Or stay at home, camp in the backyard and go to the shooting range, Skietbaan
in Pretoria is awesome.
Another self-explanatory activity. The desire to race around a track at neck-breaking speeds is something all men are born with.
3. ARCADE NIGHT
Take your son to an Arcade and challenge his skills. The winner decides where you are having dinner afterwards.
4. PAINTBALL/WATER BALLOON FIGHT
You can either take your son to a paintball arena or set up one at home. So you both will be soaking wet or covered head to toe in paint, laughing all the way.
5. PUB LUNCHING
This is a standing date my brother and father has one Friday each month. Find a restaurant or pub that makes a mean steak and take your boy. Catch up on life over good food and even better company.
FIVE FAMILY DATES
The family that plays together stays together!
1. FAMILY CAMPING TRIP
Take the whole family away for the weekend, without technology or school or work distractions the family. You can spend some excellent time together, just hanging out. Make sure every meal is eaten together, just the family. Most campsites also have great activities the family can partake in. Or try out hiking, the Oystercatcher Trails in Mossel Bay are beautiful tracks over unspoiled landscapes.
2. FAMILY BRAAI
Having a braai, just the four of us, is one of my families favourite family activity. Braai the kids’ favourites and make their favourite desserts. Teach your children the family recipes for the perfect braai or baked potato dish. Hang out in the sun and by the pool. Just chilling together. You can also visit The Braai room
restaurant in Fourways.
Did you know?
Braai Free delivers to your door? They have been delivering quality meat, frozen meals, and condiments to thousands of happy customers in Gauteng through their online store since 2015. Braai Free stock only AAA-grade meat that is neatly vacuum-packed, and delivered straight to your door! Visit their website

3. FAMILY GAME NIGHT
Order a pizza and get out all those board games you love. It might be a good time to teach your children the rules to Blackjack... or not.
4. FAMILY BOWLING/MINI GOLF
Explore what your town has to offer for Family Date Night. These activities are something everyone will enjoy. The Fun Company
is located in most shopping malls and has loads of family activities to offer and it makes getting a bite to eat afterwards so easy.
5. FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT
A Family photoshoot might be harder to sell but it will be worth it in the end when you get your gorgeous pictures back.
Transform your photos into lasting memories that you can share and keep forever. Foto First Photobooks
is the perfect and EASY way to preserve all those precious family moments, those exotic holidays, that sports function, the prize giving, the 21st, the list goes on.
Choose your favourite digital photos and have them printed in your own personalised photobook, calendar or gift. Share that special occasion with family and friends. Their easy photobook software allows you to turn your favorite images into superior-quality coffee table photo books.
These dates aren’t set in stone, mix it up and switch it around. Let Dad go get his Spa Day and Mom race around the track with her favourite boy. If your family is the type of family that is up for anything, the kids can even switch places. Whoever said girls can’t fish and boys can’t enjoy tea? Go and enjoy some awesome quality family time together!
