3 THINGS THAT CAN RUIN THE PERFECT PROPOSAL

The day you ask your partner to marry you is one of those incredibly significant milestones that you will remember for the rest of your life. This is why men and women around the globe go to such great lengths to create a perfect, memorable occasion to celebrate this momentous event.

At Date Night Ideas, we’ve been around the block when it comes to proposals, so today we’d like to point out three common pitfalls that could potentially derail your proposal, so you’ll know to avoid it in the leadup to the all-important question-popping occasion. This includes:

TALKATIVE FRIENDS & RELATIVES
This is a big one. There’s nothing worse than having your surprise proposal ruined thanks to a blabbermouth who spills be beans before you get down on one knee. Depending on the nature of your proposal, you may require the cooperation of a close friend or relative of your partner to help set the scene. If so, choose your cohort very carefully and swear them to secrecy. The fewer people are involved in the planning process, the smaller the chance that your partner will get wind of your plans and ruin the surprise.

UNWELCOME GUESTS
Choose the setting or your proposal carefully and then make sure that you can enjoy privacy during its pivotal moments. I.e. if you’re planning to cook a romantic meal at home, make sure both your cell phones are on silent and the landline is on mute as well. Bonus points if you can disconnect the doorbell! On the other hand, if you’re planning to propose at a restaurant, make sure that you discuss the matter with the proprietor ahead of time, so you can get a quiet table and signal the waiter not to interrupt at an inopportune moment. Heading on a hike to pop the question on the apex of a nearby landmark? Find out who manages the trail and call ahead to see if there aren’t any mass events or school outings planned for the day you have in mind. The last thing you want is a whole bunch of runners or school children traipsing past while you’re trying to declare your undying love.

GOING UNDOCUMENTED (or over-documented)
The moment you propose to the love of your life is something you’ll be looking back on for the rest of your days. As such, it only makes sense to capture it visually in some way or another. Whether you choose to take that all-important selfie after you slip on the ring, or go all out and rent a photographer to discreetly document the moment from afar, make sure you have all the elements in place. Charge your phone and take a selfie stick, or find a photographer with experience doing this sort of thing. It’s imperative that the person you choose knows how to conduct themselves in this type of setting – you don’t want to end up with a third wheel who makes the entire experience a little awkward by overstepping their bounds and getting in the way of your special moment.
