Each proposal is different, romantic and perfect in its own way. Your proposal story is one that you will be telling for years to come. Take your time and create something worth telling.

It doesn’t matter what type proposal you do, these 10 basics stay the same.
1. Be sure you are ready for the proposal, the marriage and most importantly the commitment.
2. Ask her/his father’s permission.
3. If you are planning on staying overnight remember to pack a bag for both of you.
4. Make it a surprise!
5. The perfect proposal is the proposal that reflects you as a couple.
6. Make sure she/he had a manicure.
7. Practice asking her/him to marry you – this will help with the butterflies on D-day.
8. Get someone to film or take pictures.

People love in different ways and each relationship is unique. We have identified 15 Proposal types each with a few Proposal Ideas. Use one, create your own or use the all! There is no wrong way to propose as long as it comes from the heart. The most important part is the two of you.
TYPE 1: THE MULTIMEDIA PROPOSAL
The Multimedia Proposal is modern and easy to share. Today technology is a crucial and integrated part of our daily lives. Using Multimedia in your proposal gives you a lot of creative freedom. Your proposal can be a whole production including cameras, lights and action lights and action.
1. THE PREVIEW
Most movie theaters have advertisement time available. Create a short video of you proposing, edited it to look like a trailer and make sure you are in time for the special preview. Be warned that you might not stay for the rest of the film.
2. CREATE YOUR OWN MOVIE MEMORY
Create a video with all your favorite moments together; a walk down memory lane, a celebration of you relationship. Fill the video with her favorite quotes and music. End the video with “Will you marry me?” For a bonus show the video to her in your own private drive-in. All you need is blanks, a white sheet and a projector.
3. SOCIAL MEDIA
Using an app (like Hootsuite) which lets you post on a bunch of social media sites at once, flood her Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with a short video of you proposing. Try and surprise her with breakfast in bed, let the proposal video be the first thing she sees. Be sure to film her reaction for a follow up video to be played at your reception. This proposal is for all the game nerds out there. Change a fun filled games night into a night she will never forget. If she loves games and solving puzzles these are the proposal ideas for her.
Write your own version of Trivia questions all focused on the things she love, what you love about her and your relationship. Make the final question the proposal. Or at a quiz night organize with the host beforehand to sneak in the questions for you.
5. BOARD GAMES
Play a normal round of your favorite game but replace the dice, character or finish line with her ring.
6. CREATE YOUR OWN PUZZLE

TYPE 4: THE DESTINATION PROPOSAL
This proposal is all about location, location, location. Explore SA or go over the water to a strange land. See some place new or revisit some of your favorite holiday destinations. 21. USE THE FRIDGE
A fridge is the most used item in any kitchen. Make it a used item in your proposal. You can either replace an egg with her ring, , or you can spell out “Will you marry me?” with labels you made on the milk carton, the egg carton, the butter and the juice. Just make sure they are the first thing she sees and that everything is in the right order. The best reason to cook breakfast.

TYPE 13: THE ARTISTIC PROPOSAL
Let your creative abilities run wild. The great thing about these proposals is good or bad she is going to love it. Plus she has a keepsake.
33. PAINTING OR SCULPTURE
Create a painting or sculpture. You decide the subject and where the proposal fits in. This piece of art will be displayed in your home from that day forward.
34. A SONG
Write a poem or song expressing your feelings. After her thunderous applause has died down get down on one knee and finish the job. Repeat the song as a surprise at the wedding reception.
35. SCRAPBOOK OF MEMORIES

37. HER BIRTHDAY

38. NEW YEARS
Love is a celebration and a proposal is the best party every! Start the New Year with a bang and time your proposal perfect. At 11:59 pm she is your girlfriend at 12:01 am she is your fiancée.
TYPE 15: THE WRITTEN PROPOSAL

39. COMIC OR STORYBOOK
Write your story beginning to end. Add illustrations or photographs. You can change names and add in fantasy and adventure. Write the ending open for example; “…the boy asked her to marry him and he held his breath as he waited for her answer…”
Leave trail of sticky notes around the house, each one telling her why you love her. Fold up the last one and stick it over your heart. While she is opening up the note and reading the words “Will you marry me?” drop down to your knee.
41. FAKE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE
Create a fake newspaper article and hand it to her as if everything is normal. It doesn’t matter what you write about as long as you end with the proposal.

Rewrite a passage or two and insert it in the original. Ask her to read that specific part out loud. Enjoy her reaction as she realizes what she just read.
