DISCOVER THE ROMANCE OF THE BUSHVELD AT TOMJACHU BUSH RETREAT
January 20, 2018
Situated in the midst of 550 hectares of pristine, game-fenced mountain bushveld that lies within the bounds of the scenic Crocodile Valley Nature Conservancy outside of Nelspruit, Tomjachu Bush Retreat is a private nature reserve co-owned by Jack Fillery and his brothers, Tom and Hugo.
The area was a tobacco farm in the 1970s, but over the course of the last four decades, the Fillery family worked tirelessly to reinvigorate the area’s natural ecosystems through careful management and the reintroduction of various species.
Today, Tomjachu Bush Retreat is a conservation haven for indigenous plants, birds, mammals and other wildlife. The retreat accommodates guests in a picture-perfect homestead which is accompanied by three delightful cottages, each of which boasts a unique character. For the ultimate romantic experience, settle into either Keepers or Rock House Cottages for an exclusively private hideaway, looking out to the majestic Bekker Mountains.
Keeper’s Cottage is renowned for its romantic atmosphere which is complemented by its colonial style and garden surroundings. This cottage is also equipped with a fireplace to cosy up to during those cool winter evenings. Rock House has a beautifully appointed open thatched studio style layout with large sliding doors drawing nature and wildlife to the foot of your bed. A stay at either of these cottages can be best described as blissful solitude.
Spectacular bush locations abound throughout the property, allowing couples to enjoy dinners and picnics under the stars, next to a gently trickling waterfall under thatch, or by the water's edge. Visitors can book a self-catering stay or choose to enjoy the in-house chef's culinary delights in the elegant dining room. Tomjachu's award-winning Valbonne Villa is an additional 5-star TGCSA, self-catering destination suitable for 6 couples or 12 guests sharing – fully serviced.
has garnered plenty of awards. This includes The Luxury Travel Guide Award for Country Retreat of the Year 2017, as well as provincial and national Lilizela Tourism

Relax and unwind as you listen to an orchestra of 265+ bird species, walk amongst plains game, hike up the tricky zebra heights trail, fish for bass, or go for a nature drive in a safari Land Rover with a knowledgeable guide.
