KEEPING THE HOME FIRES BURNING IN OFFSHORE RELATIONSHIPS
October 30, 2017
Long-distance relationships used to be something that not a lot of people understood. Sure, previous generations maintained offshore relationships with their beaus during wartime, but once peace returned, all was well again.
Now, with the advent of internet dating and the appeal of contract work in foreign countries, many couples find themselves in long-distances romances once again. At Date Night Ideas, we understand and support all sorts of relationships. We know that when your partner is on the other side of the planet for months on end, the need to set aside some special time to spend together becomes even more important.
This is why we will be dedicating regular posts to long-distance date ideas for those brave couples who decided not to let a little thing like distance stand in the way of their love.
Here are the first of our long-distance date ideas:
START A BOOK CLUB
Read the same book and then discuss it when you have your next Skype date. One of the biggest challenges in long-distance relationships can be to actually have something to talk about during those scheduled Skype sessions. Reading the same book and then having a fat chat about it is a fantastic way to go. Not really a reader? Download some audiobooks and listen to it on your commute or during your after-work run.
LEAVE STOWAWAY GIFTS
Next time before you depart, leave your partner a few surprise stowaway gifts. You can either drop off a small care package or two with a close friend or relative and ask them to take it to your partner when you can tell they need a pick-me-up; or you can schedule little treats ahead of time and let them know when it’s time to collect. Think massages, a dinner date with a mutual friend or a voucher to a store that she/he loves.
LEARN SOMETHING TOGETHER
Use your time apart constructively. Learn a new language and practise to speak it when you visit over Skype; or learn to crochet, make a bunch of different squares and knit it into a blanket when they get back. The sky’s the limit!
These are just three of the ways in which you can keep the home fires burning when your love is far away. Keep your eye on the blog in coming months as we share more awesome long-distance date ideas.

I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”
