It's the month of public holidays! These public holidays are a great opportunity to enjoy some much-needed downtime as a couple, but it can be quite a tall order to emerge rested at the other end of one of the first South African government-sanctioned off days in months, so we thought we’d share a few ideas on how you can make the most of your precious leisure time.

HOW TO ENJOY A RESTFUL PUBLIC HOLIDAY WITH YOUR PARTNER

DON’T TRY TO FIT IT ALL IN
Public holidays normally come with an endless amount of invitations to braais, dinners and picnics on the beach with various groups of friends. As tempting as it may be, don’t try to squeeze it all in the space of one day – you’ll only be dead tired and irritated after hurrying from one occasion to the next. Choose one event and enjoy it from start to finish.

SKIP THE QUEUES IF YOU CAN
Sure, a public holiday is a great opportunity to catch up on all those admin-related chores you’ve been putting off, like returning things to a store, buying a belated birthday gift for your gran or going to the dry cleaners, but do you really want to deal with those queues? Unless you get up at the crack of dawn to be there when the doors open, chances are you’re going to run into a few hundred people who had exactly the same idea.

GET SOME QUALITY SHUTEYE
If there is one thing you should do on a public holiday, it’s getting some quality sleep. Use the opportunity to unplug from work and social media, curl up with a good book or a movie and just give yourself some time to unwind. If you have trouble winding down, why not try a sleep aid like Good Night Drink – a natural product made lemon balm and hops extracts that helps to relieve stress and encourage restful sleep. No matter how you choose to enjoy your Human Rights Day, just remember to take it easy. After all, it’s your human right to take a breather every now and again.
